Interact Club's 41st Annual Installation: Chassant Rêves

On the 18th of August 2015 (Tuesday), the Interact Club of WMSKL held it's 41st Annual Installation themed 'Chassant Rêves'. The event was held in the school chapel and we had the honour of having a few Rotarians as our guests-of-honour.

The event started off at 3:40pm. We sang the National Anthem 'Negaraku', followed by the Interact Song. We then had a roll call session acknowledging the guests, various clubs & societies and students from other schools who have joined us. Then, our guest-of-honour, Rotarian Wan Rasul gave his opening speech. Thank you for your constant support toward the Interact Club of WMSKL, sir!

Then, the Installation of the Form 4 Interactors and Incoming Board of Directors begun. Each Interactor was called out to receive their collar pins and name tags for the BODs. After that, we had our beloved principal, Mdm. Chia Loy Tian give her speech. It was refreshing and enlightening to have heard Madam speak. To not bore the audience, a short performance was presented by the Form 4 Interactors. Everyone clapped and sang along, it was a lively performance!

Next, the Presentation of Certificates to the Outgoing Interactors and Outgoing Board of Directors was held. The club acknowledged the efforts of the Form 5 Interactors by presenting them certificates, signaling appreciation. Special awards such as Best Interactor was awarded to Int. Cassandra Chia, Int. Chelsea Chew was given the Most Caring Interactor award, and even Interactors who frequently took their time out to visit the children from Pusat Bantuan Sentul (an ongoing community service project), were rewarded - Int. Tan Zhi Hao, Int. Vignash Selvam, Int. See Jia Min and Int. Lesley-Ann Yong. Then, the Incoming BODs were called again up front to receive the medals handed over by the Outgoing BODs. After that, the Incoming President for 2015/2016, Int. Kok Hanz gave his speech. His words spoke of truth, dedication and determination to run the club, salute, Pres!

Then, there was a short video presentation prepared by the Form 5s - a video compilation of all the events and memories they have been through together. Of course, behind a great club, there has to be an even greater president. We then had our Outgoing President, Int. Nikisya Toh, give her speech. She was so genuine and so bold, thank you for everything Niki!

To appreciate everyone's presence, the presentation of souvenirs was held after that. The guests-of-honour received a self-painted notebook each while handmade dream catchers were given to students and Interactors.

Everyone was then led to the canteen for some light refreshments prepared by the Interactors. Some of us left with heavy hearts, and others with new responsibilities.

30 Hour Famine 2015 - "Hungry for Change"

30-Hour Famine is a no food only water camp which gives campers a first-hand experience to the struggles faced by the less fortunate in the world we live in. By joining the camp, all proceeds from donations would be forwarded to World Vision Malaysia, which is an Evangelical Christian humanitarian aid, development, and advocacy organisation.

The event kicked off at 9am, which is the official time for fasting to begin. The opening ceremony was chaired by Guest of Honour President of Rotary Club DiRaja, Rotarian Hardeep Singh, Mr Isaac Ng, a representative of World Vision Malaysia and Mr Jeyagobi, Assistant Vice-Principal of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur. The event was officiated by Mr Isaac Ng followed by a brief introduction to 30-Hour Famine.

After the introduction to 30-Hour Famine, a group shot was taken with all the participants of the camp.

Following the group short, the ice breaking session was held. The first game was to try and put the body parts announced by the facilitators on a big piece of newspaper. Following that game, we had to get to know more people by writing answers to questions asked by the facilitators on other participants. Next, it was announced that the groups were determined not by the color of the ribbons given to the participants but instead the length of the ribbons. After being put into groups, the participants played games to get to know  and bond with their groups. Later at night, mystery game was also held until lights out. Mystery night this year transitioned from a party environment in which the participants could take part in, to a murder scene where a person from the party is killed and the participants have to solve the murder.

The second day of the camp was started off with morning exercise at 7 in the morning. After morning exercise, there was an obstacle course followed by a 30 minute break and station games after. From 1.15pm - 2.30pm the participants watched a movie and at 2.30pm, the participants headed downstairs to take the group picture. Finally, at 3pm we broke fast.

International Understanding Day 2015: Lost in Perudise

We had our 41st annual International Understanding Day themed Lost in Perudise on the 17th of April 2015. Peru was chosen as our country of choice because it was a diverse, interesting and vibrant nation and not many people realize what an amazing place it is. This event was planned over the course of 7 weeks with preparation starting right after our annual cross country on the 28th of February 2015. We planned and practiced during our weekly meetings on Wednesday with all our hearts to give the best for our IU Day. On the day, a rough number of close to 700 people attended our event. Our attendees comprised of Interactors from other schools, Wesleyans, teachers, parents, Rotarians and the Guest of Honour. The event kickstarted at 3.30pm with the arrival of the Guest of Honour, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru, His Excellency Marco V Balarezo, the Rotarians, President Elect Rotarian Hardeep Singh, Past President Rotarian Louis Paul, Rotarian Ong Yu Jian, our principal, Madam Chia Loy Tian and our vice-principal, Madam Pearl Moses. After they were seated, the opening performance began with our "in-flight crew" consisting of food group showing the pre-flight safety demonstration.

The info group also took the stage to present their informative presentation on Peru. They talked about the Machu Picchu, the national animal of Peru, the vicuna, sandboarding which is a popular sport in Peru, and lots of other fun facts about Peru.
